Joanna is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004.

Joanna received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto where she specialized in Psychology and majored in Crime and Deviance. As she excelled in her studies, Joanna received recognition for her outstanding academic performance – she was on the Dean’s Honour List and invited to become a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Joanna has dedicated her professional career to family law and has practiced exclusively in this area since her call to the Ontario Bar in 2004. Joanna’s interest in family law was cultivated through law school, founded on a desire to help her clients and their families through difficult times. While still in law school, Joanna sought all opportunities to build courtroom skills and argued appeals and appeared before various tribunals through the Community Legal Aid Clinic. Joanna taught a college-level business law course, and thereafter articled at a boutique family law firm in Ottawa.

She has extensive experience in all areas of family law, including custody and access, child support, spousal support and complex property and financial issues. Joanna has particular expertise in drafting domestic contracts and complex court documents.

Joanna is also trained to resolve disputes through the collaborative process. Joanna has appeared at various levels of Court throughout Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, and has represented clients at various stages in the Court litigation process. In addition to litigation, Joanna has also represented clients in family law mediation and arbitration proceedings.

Joanna’s clients benefit from her pragmatic, levelheaded approach. She is a strong advocate for her clients and strives to find the best solution in the most cost-effective manner. Although each case is different, Joanna considers litigation to be an option of last resort if there are less costly alternatives to resolving a dispute. Joanna has successfully negotiated many settlements for her clients outside of Court. However, sometimes litigation simply cannot be avoided and when needed Joanna is not afraid to fight it out in Court and will strongly advocate for and on behalf of her clients.
